legislative decisions  direct entry into discipline major as a first-year student, bypassing what we had historically offered as a common first-year experience allowing students to explore and discover what might be their best major; this included an Introduction to Engineering course, which was lost from the curriculum  university’s adoption of an Introduction to University life course and subsequent abandonment of this course after 10 years of data did not show significant improvement in student retention.
