In the fall of 2010, [institution name] started devising and developing plausible green initiativesspearheaded by students across all five of its schools. From this college-wide endeavor, the planto convert the school s waste vegetable oil into biodiesel was initiated. In addition to purebiodiesel, the process yielded glycerin which can be converted into a variety of useful products,including soaps and candles. Through a partnership between the Chemical Engineeringdepartment and the School of Business, a feasibility analysis was performed on all possiblebiodiesel and glycerin products and their respective uses on campus. In specific, the School ofBusiness examined: bar soap, liquid soap, candles, heating oil, and pure biodiesel. The reportshowed that biodiesel used in dorm backup generators, liquid soap used in soap dispensersthroughout the campus, and candles were the three most plausible products. This partnershipwas an extremely valuable asset. It not only gave a chemical engineer the beneficialopportunity to see the business modus operandi and vice-versa, but also magnified to thepossibility of productive joint ventures between engineering and business programs oncampuses around the country.
