Abstract

Flipped ClassRoom Methodologies often require a great amount of instructor resources and efforts in creating extensive on-line video content, assessment rubrics for pre and post course evaluation, student demographic collection, and many other elements. This challenging preparation work oftens discourages instructors from redesigning their curriculum, delaying the potential benefits to enhancing learning especially among a diverse student demographic in community colleges.

We present a general process model for the fast-track introduction a flipped classroom in engineering technology by selective, partial flipping of content according to the instructors discretion. In this way, the flipped classroom is a tool to be used to enhanced learning without being bound to the comprehensive process.

This partial flip methodology also allows for the ever-elusive differentiated instruction to take place, given the wide student ethnic and learning style demographics. The model is applied to a thermodynamic course which is one of the most difficult courses students experience in their 2 year course study.
