Dr. Mitchell L. Springer, PMP, SPHR. Dr. Springer is an Associate Professor in Technology Leadership & Innovation and currently serves as the Director of the Purdue University College of Technology, Academic Center for Professional Studies in Technology and Applied Research (ProSTAR) located in West Lafayette, Indiana. He possesses over 30 years of theoretical and industry-based practical experience from four disciplines: Software Engineering, Systems Engineering, Program Management and Human Resources. He sits on many university and community boards and advisory committees. Dr. Springer is internationally recognized, has authored numerous books and articles, and lectured on software development methodologies, management practices and program management. Dr. Springer received his Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from Purdue University, his M.B.A. and Doctorate in Adult and Community Education with a Cognate in Executive Development from Ball State University. He is certified as both a Project Management Professional (PMP) and a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR).

Grant Street West Lafayette, IN 47907 (765) 496-6071 phone bertoline@purdue.edu Page 1 of 2Abstract –In the fall of 2010, under the Purdue University College of Technology’s academic Center forProfessional Studies in Technology and Applied Research (ProSTAR), was the inaugural offering adistance learning hybrid Master’s of Science area of concentration in Organizational Leadership andSupervision program. This program evolved from the collective experience and knowledge of an intenseindustry-academia partnership. The program was intentionally differentiated from a traditional MBA-type of program. The program was designed to provide successful transitional training and education tothose individual’s evolving from an individual contributor technical position to a leadership/managementopportunity.Through a focused and intentional alignment of key courses in three primary areas; leadership,business/technology management and application, the enrolled students are provided the opportunity fordiscovery, assimilation and subsequent application of acquired knowledge and skills in industrial settingsboth nationally and internationally. The program has experienced significant enrollment in excess ofpreviously forecasted pro forma expectations, and, is expected to form the foundation for future similaroffering opportunities.
