Dr. Ramalingam Radhakrishnan is a professor in the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering at Prairie View A&M University (PVAMU), TX. He is teaching graduate and undergraduate courses in structural engineering. He represents PVAMU in the Texas Space Grant Consortium (TSGC) and have participated in Texas Space Grant Consortium activities since 1990 and as PVAMU representative to TSGC involved UG students on space research and promoted several UG student Scholarships and Graduate Fellowships Awards. He conducted Summer Transportation Institute at PVAMU funded for High School Students by US DOT FHWA from 2000 to 2013. He is a Fellow Member of the American Society of Civil Engineers.
Civil engineering is a professional engineering discipline that deals with designing, construction, and maintenance of all built environment and structures which includes buildings, shopping malls, parking lots, roadways, bridges, flyovers, canals, dams, railways, water treatment and wastewater treatment plants and drainage systems. How these different components of various aspects of Civil engineering infrastructure are covered in an undergraduate level senior design courses in two semesters Civil Engineering in general Civil Engineering Degree Program is a challenge. This paper presents the evolution and implementation of a comprehensive Senior Design experience imparted to the civil engineering students in the Department of Civil Engineering at Prairie View A&M University. The project scope, objectives, student team organization, design progress and final presentation to Industry Advisory council and evaluation methods integrated at PVAMU during the past five years will be discussed with sample data. How student outcomes are measured and ABET criteria are met during the implementation of the Capstone Design Project design will be illustrated.
