Abstract

Effects of Construction Cost and Volume on Construction Time of Educational Projects in TexasAbstractStudies indicate that there is a relationship between project cost and construction time for different constructionmarkets. The purpose of this study is to validate the time-cost relationship model developed by Brolmilow et al. incontext with educational construction projects in Texas. The model was extended to include the magnitude of theprojects in terms of volume and project delivery methods to determine whether these variables also have an effect onproject duration. Data related to 40 educational projects completed within last five years was obtained for the study.SPSS® program was for analysis of the data. The statistical technique used for the analysis was multiple linearregression. The results indicate that time-cost relationship does not hold good for educational projects in Texas. However, the results show a statistically significant relationship between construction time and magnitude of theproject at the level of significance (p-value) of < 0.0001. Construction cost seems to have a collinearity effect withproject magnitude; project delivery method does not have an effect on construction time. Therefore, both of thesevariables are not required to be incorporated in the model. This model will be useful to students, both at graduateand undergraduate levels, who taking courses related to construction project scheduling.Key words: Construction time, Construction Cost, Construction Volume, Educational Construction
