Abstract

Described are five mobile applications created for senior projects in Computer Information Technology that were done in conjunction with local companies, local government, and within the university to support teaching and research. The first mobile application was done for a local manufacturer of compressors that tracks the status of equipment being built on the factory floor. The second mobile app was an anonymous hotline tip application for the local police department that allows a user to send a tip regarding criminal or other activity. Location and type-of-event information is sent to the police department. The third application was for a mobile app for inventory tracking of video production equipment for a local company that sets up equipment on sound stages to record music concerts for a public television station. The fourth mobile app interfaced a Fitbit watch using their API to retrieve Fitbit cloud-based information from a wearable fitness tracker for use in a research application for enhancing a person’s health. The fifth mobile app implemented a concept map that is used to train nurses at a university. These mobile apps are described in detail, including the technologies used, the approach that each student team used to solving the problem, how the work was split within each team, the process for interacting with the customers for these applications during the development cycle, how the apps were transitioned to the customers, and the post transition status of each of the apps.
