Dr. Tester has expertise in Engineering Design with interests in Engineering Management, rapid prototyping, manufacturing processes, biomechanics, and engineering education. Dr. Tester's scholastic interests frequently integrate undergraduate engineering education with applied research projects. He has actively supported the SAE intercollegiate competition series for over 20 years as a faculty advisor, at two universities in two states.
Mazen is an Associate Professor in the General and Basic Engineering Department at Regional University. His research interests include: Freight modeling and logistics, facilities planning and material handling, optimization and simulation modeling, production planning and control, reverse logistics and recycling, modern manufacturing systems, microalloying and mechanical behavior, teaching statistics and increasing the data analytics content in engineering curricula, and the impact of the administrative policies on the engineering education. Memberships: Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers, American Society for Quality, Institute for Supply Management, and Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences.
A new Masters of Science in Engineering Management (MSEM) was created and deployed at Tennessee Tech University. In-depth planning began in 2016 with reviews of campus and regional online graduate programs. The program was designed to incorporate only asynchronous, online courses, via cohort enrollment, started each academic year. The curriculum was built around both College of Engineering and College of Business graduate courses. The program was approved for a Spring 2020 start date, with the the first of the MSEM engineering classes developed and launched in Fall 2020. The first MSEM graduates completed their degrees in December 2022. This paper presents the primary challenges of course development, curriculum integration, online technology issues, graduating student feedback, and future planning for the program.
