This paper will illustrate the student experience in the virtual format of Thermodynamics I class taught during COVID. This class is traditionally offered face to face at X, however, due to COVID-19 pandemic, this class was taught virtually in summer. The online version of the textbook “Thermodynamics: An Engineering Approach, 9th edition, by Yunus Cengel and Michael Boles, was adopted as a primary reference for this class. The publisher’s online platform “McGraw-Hill Connect” was employed to assess student performance. The Connect was used to assign online reading assignments and homework problems. With the Connects’ algorithmic questions and availability of the smartbook (highlighting key contents) version of the textbook made an excellent virtual experience in learning thermodynamic concepts.
