Prior to becoming Dean in 2011, he served as Executive Dean (2006–2011) of the Fulton Schools of Engineering, the Associate Vice President for Research for Arizona State University (2004–2006), and the Associate Dean for Research for the Fulton Schools of Engineering (2002–2004). Before joining ASU in 1994, he was a Senior Research Engineer at the Shell Oil/Shell Chemical Westhollow Technology Center (1987–1994).
Johnson’s expertise is in soil and groundwater remediation and risk assessment. His work forms the basis for many widely applied technologies and regulatory guidance on risk assessment. His research group received the 2011 Strategic Environmental Research and Development Program Project of the Year Award.
