Abstract

The daily evolution of technological advancement has embodied the rapid growth of information Technology infrastructure. The invention of the internet has continued to increase the use of computers and mobile devices. Nowadays, many people in the world use these devices, and as a result, a large amount of data is stored in these devices and each device is on the internet is required to be connected to each other because of sharing information. With this innovation, it has then brought about Cloud computing which is Internet-based computing where shared resources, software, and information are provided to computers and devices on-demand. Cloud computing provides people with a way to share distribute resources and services that belong to a different organization. Since cloud computing uses distributed resources in an open environment, it is important to provide security and trust to share the data in a secured manner for developing cloud computing applications. In this paper, emphases will be laid on the practical ways to secure the IT environments with some useful real-life scenarios which are like a baseline in Network security before diverging into cloud security. In recent times, securing our IT environment has become the key factor in the industry due to an increasing number of attackers invading and stealing intellectual properties thereby, rendering most IT industries to go out of business. They may find that understanding and translating IT security recommendations to implementable practices can be overwhelming. While this is a worthwhile and important task, there are also more practical ways to ensure using IT security best practices in business. Therefore, the need to properly secure our IT environments to mitigate those attacks coming from hackers or the cloud by using the right tools in all IT domains will be fully discussed in this paper.
