Wet Roads is a capstone team from Ohio Northern University. The purpose of Wet Roads is to design and create a shower system for camper van travelers. In recent years the amount of people buying vans and converting them into spaces for simultaneous traveling and living, or “Van-Life”, has increased dramatically. With this increase, the need has arisen for an independent shower system (hose, showerhead, curtains, etc.) that allows the owner of the van to have a hot shower wherever their journey takes them. Market research showed that there is no complete shower system currently available (outside of hiring a van-conversion company, which is very pricey). A survey was conducted to gain market research of wants and needs by those who would be using the product, leading to potential solutions. After the initial ideas were proposed, they were narrowed down using a decision matrix until there was a single design. After taking into consideration the concerns addressed by the PRB 1 and the client, a new solution (adapted from before) has been developed. Calculations were performed to ensure sufficient heating of the water would occur and 3D models were created, shown to the client for feedback, and remodeled. A parts list was assembled to find the necessary components as well as to determine the budget necessary to complete the project. During the construction of the budget request, cost reducing measures were taken wherever possible without jeopardizing the functionality of the solution. As it stands, the client is satisfied with the current design solution and the product will be ready to be constructed assuming the funding is approved. We would like to present all of the initial designs as well as the full shower assembly at the 2022 ASEE conference.
