AB  -                            Measuring the Performance of the                          Engineering Design Graphics JournalAbstractThe Engineering Design Graphics Journal recently transitioned from being a print-only journalto being an online-only journal aided by Open Journal Systems. Developed and administered bythe Public Knowledge Project, Open Journal Systems is an integrated open source journalmanagement and publishing system that facilitates the publication of over 2000 journals. AmongOpen Journal Systems’ numerous features are the following: Open Journal Systems is installedlocally and locally controlled; editors can configure requirements, sections, review process, etc;submission and management of all content is accomplished online; a subscription module isavailable with delayed open access options; comprehensive indexing of a journal’s content ispart of a global system; reading tools for content is based on the discipline and editors' choice;email notification and commenting ability are available for readers; and complete context-sensitive online Help support is available. While the continued success of any journal intransition includes ensuring that authors can continue negotiating the submission, editorial, andpublication process; reviewers can continue evaluating manuscripts; and editors can continueworking with authors and reviewers with relative ease; sustaining a journal’s performance canonly be achieve by the editorial staff with the aid of data and the use of the that data to ascertainits performance. OJS itself, indexing services, and Google Analytics are among the sources ofdata that can be used to ascertain an online journal’s performance. The data can be used tomeasure the journal’s current performance, an editorial staff can intervene with improvementstrategies, and the data can be used to ascertain the extent of success of intervention strategies.The ultimate goal of this study was to improve the Engineering Design Graphics Journal’sperformance.
