Let’s show it by the                                 numbers.Every day we all are involved in discussions on the past, current, and future states of ourengineering profession. Truths, half-truths, hearsay, and conjecture are all quoted andexchanged as “real” representations of reality. As engineers, we want the most factualinformation available to make informed decisions.This paper paints a comprehensive picture of the Civil Engineering profession, usingavailable data and statistics. It employs numbers from CE formal education enrollments,degree awarding, licensure information, numbers of practicing CEs and more to depict“what is the civil engineering community”—today and in the future. The paper employscomparison data with other professions to highlight our similarities and differences, tobetter understand and appreciate who we are.This abstract is submitted at the specific invitation and request of Tom Lenox,the coordinator of the ASCE Liaison Committee’s program for the CE Divisionof ASEE in 2011. It should be considered for inclusion in the session(s) thatTom Lenox is organizing and moderating.
