Abstract

Using TOP Method to Enhance the Construction Engineering Student Learning From the industry people’s perspective, employers desire the engineering students to develop solid fundamentals of engineering knowledge along with limited professional skills, and strong oral and written communication capability while they are in school.   From the students’ perspective, , engineering students need an opportunity to develop these skills, and to find way to keep their motivation always towards the engineering career. Since the gap between the industry’s requirements and students’ capabilities, the industry often comment the students they hired don’t have enough training in school. On the other hand, students commented that they don’t have much chance to obtain these skills in classroom. This paper addresses a practice done in a typical course of the construction engineering curriculum to enhance the students learning and therefore allow them to develop required skills. This practice uses a TOP method – that stands for Team Work, Oral Interaction, and Professional in Classroom. An implementation example for Scheduling and Project Control class is included in the paper.
