Casey Cline is an Assistant Professor in the Construction Management Department within the College of Engineering at Boise State University. Dr. Cline earned a B.S. in Business Administration from Oklahoma State University, an M.S. in Construction Science from the University of Oklahoma, and a Ph.D. in Education (Adult Development Organizational Learning) from The University of Idaho. His educational research interests are focused on improving construction management processes to facilitate the efficient management of construction projects.

Abstract

Qualifications of Safety Professionals in the U.S. Construction IndustryAbstractIndustry standards vary when hiring a safety professional for the construction industry.Commercial construction companies consider national certifications, professional experience,field experience, and educational credentials when considering viable candidates for constructionsafety positions. This paper presents the finding of a study conducted to identify qualificationsneeded for construction safety professionals. Quantitative data collected from U.S. commercialconstruction companies was analyzed to determine the qualifications needed for constructionsafety positions and establish consistency of value placed on the identified qualifications.Findings of the study improve understanding of the needed qualifications of construction safetyprofessionals and can lead to more effective construction safety education through enhancedtraining methods and procedures.
