Relationship between Student Competitive Activities and the Entrepreneurial MindsetAbstractThis paper will focus on examining the use of student competitive events, projects and competitions and their relationship to building the entrepreneurialmindset in engineering discipline. The use of student competitive events hasbeen and continues to be an integral part the engineering curriculum. Crossdisciplinary and inter disciplinary teams are established to compete in variousforms of competition in most engineering programs. These competitive eventsinclude: Aero Design Competition, Bridge Building, SAE Formula, Element One –Hydrogen Team, Baja Team, etc. These are examples of student competitiveevents that are held on local, national and international level. No doubtcompetitions have great value in team building skill, self confidence, technological knowledge, linking theory and practice and building school pride. This paper will study the relationship between competitive activities andentrepreneurial mindset. Our study will involve interviews and surveys fromexisting and past team members of those competitions. These steps will enableus to validate the hypothesis that there is a correlation between studentcompetitive events and the entrepreneurial mindset within engineering discipline. We will present the results of our study including the findings and therecommendations. This study may provide evidence of the importance of theutilization of student competitive activities as an experiential learning tool.
