Abstract

Implementation of a Materials for Energy Storage CourseA course has been developed in Materials for Energy Storage at _____________ University. This course studies the components of electrochemical cells and the various materials used forthese components. The focus of the course is on the properties of the different materials, thebenefits and drawbacks of each one, and the selection of the materials for specific applications. The interaction between the materials of the individual components within the cells is alsoexamined. Finally, the electrochemical energy storage system is considered as a whole and thetesting and performance of the overall system is studied. The initial offering of the course has been completed. Following the completion of the course, aconfidential student survey was administered in order to assess the course and provide feedbackfor further modifications and improvements. The feedback obtained from the survey instrumentassessed the course documents, course organization, learning expectations, specific coursecomponents, as well as an assessment of the overall course. Additionally, the instructor assessedthe outcomes of the course and the topics that were covered in order to identify where additionalfocus should be given. This allowed for adjustment of future lesson plans, homeworkassignments, and projects. This paper will present an overview of the course, lessons learned, and the feedback obtainedfrom the pilot offering. The plans for further modifications and improvements based on theevaluation of the pilot offering will be discussed.
