Abstract

Evaluation of DyKnow in a Chemical Engineering CurriculumIn 2008, Trine University mandated that all fulltime faculty get a Toshiba Tablet PC and, at thesame time, purchased a license to use DyKnow software. DyKnow is a software package whichhelps students take advantage of the Tablet PC. One advantage is that it allows the instructor toanonymously poll students who are afraid of asking questions. It also records instructor penstrokes, which allows instructors to develop slides with information missing, to encouragestudent participation. But most importantly, it controls the tablet PC so as not to allow studentsto surf the web or email their friends without instructor consent. This poster will discuss theadvantages and disadvantages of the DyKnow software in a sophomore energy balance class, aswell as a junior level engineering economics course. It will show improved student achievementand positive overall satisfaction with the software.Poster Session
