Claudio da Rocha Brito is professor of electrical and computer engineering. Currently, he is the President of Science and Education Research Council (COPEC), President of Fishing Museum Friends Society (AAMP), President of (Brazilian) National Monitoring Committee of Internationale Gesellschaft für Ingenieurpädagogi" (IGIP) and Vice President of Réseau Carthagène d`Ingénierie (Cartagena Network of Engineering) and Safety, Health, and Environment Research Organization (SHERO). He is Chairman of Working Group Ingenieurpädagogik im Internationalen Kontext and member of International Monitoring Committee in IGIP, Council Member of International Council for Engineering and Technology Education (INTERTECH), Member of Administrative Committee of Education Society of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Inc. (IEEE-EdSoc) in (2001-2004) and (2008-2011), Member of Strategic Planning Committee of Education Society of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Inc. (IEEE-EdSoc), Board Member of Global Council on Manufacturing and Management (GCMM), and Director of Brazilian Network of Engineering (RBE/SP). He was President of Brazilian Chapter of Education Society of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Inc. (IEEE-EdSoc), Secretary of Santos region of SBPC - Brazilian Association for the Advancement of Science, Adviser for International Subjects of the Presidency of Brazilian Society for Engineering Education (ABENGE), Dean of International Relations of SENAC School of Engineering and Technology, member of Executive Committee of Asociación Iberoamericana de Instituciones de Enseñanza de la Ingeniería – ASIBEI (Iberian-American Association of Engineering Education Institutions), Councilor of Urban Development City Council (CMDU), and Councilor of Economics Development City Council (CDES). He is Member of IGIP (International Society for Engineering Education), SEFI (European Society for Engineering Education), ASEE (American Society for Engineering Education), INTERTECH (International Council for Engineering and Technology Education), and RCI (Cartagena Network of Engineering). Brito has received a B.S. degree in electrical engineering, B.S. degree in mathematics, B.S. degree in physics, M.S. and Ph.D. in electrical engineering all from the University of São Paulo. He is listed in "Who's Who in the World," "Who's Who in America," "Who's Who in Science and Engineering," "Five Thousand Personalities of the World," "Dictionary of International Biography," "Men of Achievement," and others similar publications.

Abstract

Engineering Education for the Improvement of Practice: Preparing for Labor Market Prof. Dr. Claudio da R. Brito President of Science and Education Research Council – COPECTechnical skill is associated with understanding and proficiency in aparticular type of activity, especially those that are involved in methods,processes and procedures. As an example, one can take the training of theengineer, who - mostly - is focused moreover, on calculations, simulationsand projects, characterizing it as an individual, above all, objective.Since the human ability can be understood as the ability of individuals tointeract with others to form similar one that respects his fellow and naturethis individual is aware of his/her own attitudes, opinions and beliefs aboutothers. Realizing the existence of other attitudes, opinions and beliefsdifferent from his/hers, the individual is able to understand them.By becoming aware of the need to combine their technical skills (to run itsspecific activity) with the human ability (to develop proactive humanrelationship), this professional develops the conceptual ability, which isdirectly associated with the coordination and integration of all attitudes andinterests of the organization that owns or provides the service.In other words, not technical enough to be good, if not able to understandcomprehensively the meaning of the activity that is being exerted, throughthese three interconnected skills.This aspect is the main one in terms of engineering formation for 21stCentury Labor Market for engineers. Taking it into account theEngineering Education Research Team of COPEC – Science and EducationResearch Council has designed a program for an engineering school whichmain goal is to prepare engineers for the work market or what is called “theengineer of application”.The program has been designed in details in according to the present labormarket for engineers, with its particular characteristics and with a need ofengineers. The implementation of the program is for 2012.The goal of this work is to show the engineering program developed withthe objective to form engineers of application for the present labor market.
