Prof. Bueno is an assistant professor in the department of engineering fundamentals, teaching all the courses offered by the department. His focus is on teaching and preparing students for the upper-level classes that follow in their educational experience.
Milestones as Guide to Drafting Project with Design Intent to Improve the Application of Dimensioning Specifications Bueno, Leonardo A. Embry-Riddle Aeronautical UniversityStudents in first-year engineering often face an issue: a lack in their ability to apply dimensioningspecifications to design problems. Students need that skill in order to properly, and effectively, describe engineering solutions. This paper describes an attempt to engage the learner by involvingthem in a design exercise where they are required to provide a detail solution to a problem of theirchoosing. The learner is guided, through a series of milestones, to help them develop a design, checkfor completion, and do a final revision of the dimensioned sketches. It is proposed that throughguidance and allowing students to invest effort and time in a solution of their interest, it improves theirdimensioning skills and this is demonstrated as better results when applying dimensioning to theirdesign solution.
