Abstract A correlation study of Capstone, and project-based courses activities on STEMengineering technology students’ enrollment. Ihab Habib (2014), Austin Peay State University,Clarksville, Tennessee. The problem studied in this research project was the List of engineeringtechnology activities (co-curricular and academic). For each activity indicate your level ofinvolvement during the most recent academic year enrollment of female STEM engineeringtechnology students and the impact of research or project based learning activities on the student,enrollment, retention, and completion of engineering curriculum. The problem studied in thisresearch project was the enrollment of female STEM engineering technology students and theimpact of professional mentoring and financial incentives on their enrollment, retention, andcompletion of engineering curriculum. The purpose of this research was to evaluate the topic offemale students’ enrollment in Engineering Technology STEM programs, compare the factorsinfluenced the female enrollment in undergraduate engineering curricula to their malecounterpart, the impacts of professional mentoring and financial incentives on female STEMengineering technology students and developed and implemented a professional mentoring andfinancial incentive program within the site university STEM engineering technology program.The following research questions guided this research project: 1. What factors influenced enrollment of female STEM engineering technologystudents’ enrollment in undergraduate engineering curricula? 2. What were the impacts of professional mentoring and financial incentives onfemale STEM engineering technology students? 3. How was a successful professional mentoring and financial incentive programdeveloped within the site university STEM engineering technology program? A survey correlation study was done by the researcher in a Middle Tennessee Universityto determine factors that influenced students enrollment to the program especially female as aminority in the Engineering Technology Department, make necessary changes to the curriculum,and make improvements in project based learning to improve rate of enrollment, retention, andcompletion of the Engineering technology program. A survey was created to study the activitiesthat lead students to their choice of major regardless of their gender differences. This resultscould increase Females in engineering Technology to improve current under-represented groups.Other similar studies showed the more females are provided with scholarships and facultymentorship the ore diversity will be in engineering schools. This correlational study used a combination of qualitative and quantitative data fromenrolled ENGT university students’ and quantitative data from the students’ response. The studytook place over the course of the spring of 2013-2014 school year. It was conducted at a MiddleTennessee public university and data was generated from the site’s Engineering TechnologyPrograms. The two groups were the male and female students enrolled in the ENGT programs.Several areas of statistical significance were identified, and other areas showed statisticalsignificances with strong correlations were identified in this study by reviewing the data acquiredfrom the statistical tests. Suggestions for further research include conducting the same research in other parts ofthe country to eliminate regional gender role perceptions.
