Design and Development of a New Small-Scale Wind Turbine BladeThe race for renewable energy resources is driving the evolution of the windturbine. The objective of this work is to investigate, design and development of anew blade design for small scale wind turbines that will generate more power thanthe currently available designs. A modified cone shaped, flow directing devicewas designed and installed at upstream of the wind turbine to increase theapproaching air velocity to the blades. Experiments were conducted with andwithout the above mentioned device to evaluate the power generated by theturbine. The experimental results demonstrated an increase in power output by60% when the cone shaped device was used. A new blade was designed andconstructed that will be able to utilize the downstream effect of the flow directingdevice. The new blade design was capable of generating 400 watts of poweroutput when used in conjunction with the flow directing device. The number ofblades, location, and surface area of the blades were considered during the designprocess.
