Abstract

Facilitating Team Processes in Virtual Team Projects Through Cloud- Based Technologies and Instructional Scaffolds__________________________________________________________________________________________AbstractBecause of the global nature of the workforce, teams are becoming increasingly distributed andvirtual; with team members using information and communication technologies (ICT) tocollaborate from remote locations. Most engineering courses do not facilitate the development ofteamwork and project management skills and put little emphasis on key processes such as teambuilding, clarifying goals and expectations, using communication and collaboration technologiesand communicating with diverse project stakeholders (internal and external customers).Instructional and procedural scaffolds embedded with information and communicationtechnologies have great potential as suitable mediums for enhancing these processes through thedevelopment of skills, such as teamwork, project management and leadership. This paperdescribes a set of activities and tools used to facilitate team processes through the theoretical lensof the team effectiveness literature from industrial and organizational psychology.
