AB  - How to Build an American Classroom Environment in a Chinese Engineering                                CollegeAbstractThe engineering education in China has made a lot of promising changes recently. The Chineseeducators are actively aligning their teaching styles, course materials and utilization of availableresources with the popular practices in the western countries (such as the US). The authors of thepaper piloted a graduate course, Advanced Manufacturing Systems, in spring 2014 at YangzhouUniversity in China. An American classroom environment was simulated in this course. It wastaught in English and covered a wide range of up-to-date topics in manufacturing. It was alsoproject-based and involved large amounts of in-class discussions, which improved the criticalthinking and problem solving skills of the students. The student feedback of this course wasexciting. In this paper, the authors will introduce how this course was designed and taught. Theywill also share their future plans for further improving the teaching quality of other graduatecourses.
