Lash Mapa is a Professor in Industrial/Mechanical Engineering Technology at Purdue University Calumet (PUC). His undergraduate and graduate degrees are in Chemical Engineering. He has several years’ experience as a Chemical Engineer, Process and Project manager with European and U.S. manufacturing organizations. Currently, he is involved in the MS Technology program at PUC and has managed over thirty lean six sigma projects with manufacturing, service industry and educational institutions. He is a certified six sigma black belt and a certified quality engineer with ASQ
RFID Signal Penetration through Particulate SolidsRadio frequency identification technology is an automatic identification wirelesscommunication technology that integrates physical objects with the digital data. It is alsobecoming popular in supply chain management, which covers all processes in the flow ofgoods from manufacturing to customers, which includes manufacturing, distribution andtransportation. This research paper focuses on the readability of RFID penetration indifferent particulate solid products with varying particle sizes. In addition simulationduring transportation is performed on a conveyor belt at different speeds. Variable factorsin this experiment were different types of particulate solids of different particle sizes, speedof the conveyor and distance of the antenna from the conveyor. Data are analyzed usingNK Factorial design to observe the significance of the main factors.
