From Engineering Technology Undergraduate to Graduate Engineering Studies
This paper will share with the audience about how Electrical Engineering Technology degree with minor in mathematics can increase the chances for a graduate to continue his/her graduate studies in Electrical Engineering at other institutions. Many Engineering Technology programs have four or five levels of mathematics which is College Algebra, Calculus I, Calculus II, Differential Equations and Calculus III. Some do not require Calculus III, and others do. For a graduate to be able to continue his/her education at the graduate level in Engineering and not in Engineering Technology, they need to have good mathematics background that some Engineering Technology programs are not preparing them for. Some may have to take few more undergraduate mathematics courses if they are admitted into graduate Engineering program. Those who are hired as Engineers may have limited design skills due to limited mathematics courses in their programs. In this paper, I will share with the audience about a new Bachelor of Electrical Engineering Technology (B. Tech) program that prepares students with opportunity to have minor in mathematics without spending extra time in completing the degree. Graduate from this program with minor in mathematics will have better opportunity in succeeding in Electrical Engineering graduate program as a result of his/her mathematical strength. I will share the curriculum with the audience and the flexibility that allow students to complete the degree with minor in mathematics in four years.
