Ms. Melgoza is an Associate Professor and Science & Engineering Librarian at Texas A&M University. She received her master's in Educational Human Resources Development from Texas A&M University and her second master's in the Library and Information Science from the University of North Texas.

Abstract

All Texas A&M University students must pass two courses in their major that fulfill the graduation requirement for writing (W) and oral communication (C). This paper discusses the mentoring that librarians provide the students in two courses in the Engineering Technology & Industrial Distribution Department which are the writing intensive courses. Initially one librarian gave each team a 30 minute library session. However when the librarian realized that the students required more support, the session expanded to 45 minutes to an hour and also coached the teams in project management and technical paper writing skills.
