Abstract

The agile methodology known as Scrum can be used as both the mechanism for accomplishing departmental change and as a sustainable method of department operations that focuses on rapid development of curricular materials, pedagogical approaches, and policies that allow the department to continuously innovate and thrive. Elements of Scrum, such as stand up meetings, sprint retrospectives, and scrum of scrum, provide opportunity to immerse the key change strategies into regular department operations. In general, the adoption of Scrum has the capability to facilitate improvement of pedagogy through more widespread use of evidence-based practices, improve effectiveness and reduce effort in development of programs, curricula, and course materials, and increase time available for other activities by working in cross-functional team that capitalize on expertise in knowledge and skills of each member of the faculty, including professors of practice and adjunct faculty.
