AB  - In this paper, the author will highlight an approach and experience in using the change to the new ABET Student Outcomes to engage faculty in the program assessment process.  We will specifically look at one department’s program assessment process and how the recent ABET changes were used as an opportunity to transition to the use of performance  indicators. The adoption of best practices in assessment, evaluation, and continuous improvement will be discussed.  Tools and techniques will be described that were used to gain faculty buy–in and how the use of data visualization resulted in department faculty being more engaged in the program assessment process.

The department’s transition to the recently updated ABET Criterion 3 (Student Outcomes) will be detailed including the review and restructuring of the curriculum maps for two programs offered.  How the department transitioned to incorporating the use of Tableau to visualize their assessment results and to allow faculty to interact with and analyze the results prior to and during department discussions will also be discussed. There will be an emphasis on the difference between data and actionable information which can be used to continuously improve student learning.
