Abstract

The Framework for P-12 Engineering Learning has been published as a practical guide for developing coherent, authentic, and equitable engineering learning initiatives/programs across schools. This guide includes defining the three-dimensions of engineering learning as well as identifying common learning goals that all students should reach to become engineering literate. Accordingly, this resource will provide a brief introduction to the contents of the framework and explore how the highlighted engineering concepts can build upon each other to influence more immediate and purposeful instructional practice. This resource will also highlight instructional materials (i.e., engineering performance matrices and sample lesson plans) to teach engineering, with increased sophistication over time, within socially-relevant and culturally-situated contexts.
