Dr. Randy McDonald is the Director of Learning Design and Distance Education for the College of Engineering at Texas A&M University where he leads a design team in the development of online programs for academic and workforce education.
Prior to coming to Texas A&M, Randy worked at Stephen F. Austin State University for twenty-five years in a variety of roles including tenured faculty member in the College of Education, director of instructional technology and distance education, director of the university’s Quality Enhancement Plan, and director of the Center for Teaching & Learning.
Randy holds a B.B.A. in Information Systems and Quantitative Studies from Abilene Christian University, an M.Ed. in Secondary Education from Stephen F. Austin State University, an Ed.D. in Higher Education from Texas A&M-Commerce, and an M.S. in Library Science from the University of North Texas. His publications have addressed technology’s impact on course development, teacher education, and library services.
Randy McDonald is a past-president of the Texas Distance Learning Association.
Lani Draper, Instructional Designer for the College of Engineering at Texas A&M University, serves engineering faculty by managing course design projects and providing support to faculty through one-on-one consultations, presenting workshops, and developing online training and tutorials. She has over 18 years of experience in Higher education in libraries, web development, instructional design, and distance learning, where she has offered workshops and classes to undergraduate students and K-12 teachers. She also holds an online adjunct faculty position at the University of Arizona Global Campus, teaching Information literacy and research skills to adult learners.
Dr. Palsole is Assistant Vice Chancellor for Remote Engineering Education at Texas A&M University, and has been involved in academic technology for over 20 years. He helped establish the Engineering Studio for Advanced Instruction & Learning (eSAIL),
LESSONS LEARNED: A 360 Degree Review of Faculty Development Resources
This paper reflects on the process, results, and lessons learned from a comprehensive review of the professional development resources and program provided for Engineering faculty by a distance education support unit at a large research university. The purpose of the review is to determine the overall effectiveness and value of the resources currently offered and to gain input from the faculty community and other stakeholders that may lead to an improved program. The study considers and compares four different perspectives: input from faculty who have participated in the program, input from faculty who have not participated in the program, input from the facilitators of the program, and data analytics of web-based resources. This lessons learned paper will be presented as a poster session. The preferred presentation method for this Lessons Learned paper is as a Poster.
