Introduction to Wireless Control and Virtual Instrumentation using LabVIEW Gary A. Ybarra gary@ee.duke.edu Duke University, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Durham, NC

I. Introduction

The initial objective of the laboratory is for students to learn to use properly the Hewlett Packard (HP) digital instruments at their lab bench and the correct method of measuring physical quantities with each instrument. The four HP digital instruments used in the lab are:

(1) HP E3611A DC power supply (2) HP 33120A Function Generator (3) HP 34401A Digital Multimeter (4) HP 54600A (or B) Oscilloscope

The first four laboratory exercises are devoted to basic electrical measurements and techniques (voltage, current, resistance, power) in the context of resistive and op-amp cir- cuits. PSpice is introduced in the first lab and used in each lab exercise. A comparison between theory, simulation, and physical measurements is a general theme in each lab- oratory exercise. The remaining six exercises are devoted to refinement of measurement techniques in the context of building and testing a simple transmitter/receiver system that is used to drive a servomotor controller circuit.
