success.ConclusionWe have constructed a first-year electrical engineering course which covers material similar tothat of most traditional courses, but is augmented by an emphasis on understanding one’s ownlearning methods. Students are encouraged to approach problem solving with an open mind,rather than trying to apply a rigid process. The class experience is enhanced by the presence ofundergraduate mentors who provide guidance and intellectual diversity that would otherwise belacking. Also, when a company issponsoring a project, sometimes it is allowed to basically define on its own the scope of theproject that will be assigned to the students.
