asked. CVEN Rome Program critiques were country-specific (e.g. transportation);however, the persistent responses about the language barrier indicate an area in which the CVENRome Program may find room for improvement.xii. Student ImpactOne academic concern raised often with a study abroad program is whether or not students learnthe content they need to succeed academically as they return from the experience. During a studyabroad program, there are several competing priorities with learning the culture, traveling, andtaking advantage of this unique experience. The CVEN Rome Program was designed to maintainthe same rigorous curriculum of courses taught in College Station, while providing someschedule flexibility to allow students to travel and

audiences across both continents. Thiscollaboration offered him the opportunity to further develop his pedagogical and solar energyknowledge as he designed these modules. The instructor contributed expertise in solar energyand educational methods. This collaboration also allowed the faculty member an opportunity todevelop curriculum that integrates a global component for US students to develop their globalengineering mindset without travelling. The instructor’s future students in the USA have anopportunity to learn about the context of South Sudan which few may have the opportunity tovisit. In this work in progress, we will describe the context of South Sudan, the independentstudy course, the modules designed, lessons learned in doing this work

Collaborator ResponsesWhat is the key The case studies on real-life situations are an integral part of theobjective behind curriculum of all the universities. Featured case studies on the websitethe collaborative provide an opportunity for students to read and critically analyze theproject? case studies, as well as responses of other students from their university and other universities. It helps students in appreciating cultural differences in their opinions and perspectives. transgressfrom national culture difference to understanding the multiple realities of engineering and“acknowledge cultural complexity in engineering through an integrated development ofcompetencies for utilizing cultural diversity benefits” ([5], p.658), in the drive for interculturalcompetencies. Hence, understanding the engineering discipline’s cultural traits in other countriesallows us to identify cultural aspects shared by students providing information to improvedisciplinary practice in engineering education and promoting global and interculturalengineering. Therefore, this initial paper, as part of a multi-country project, focuses on understanding howstudents from two major universities in the United States (U.S.) and Ecuador, characterize

Morocco, and 6) 3Australia and New Zealand. To meet the program’s goal of global engineering competencies, students visit companies, universities and are immersed in cultural and social attraction sites inthe respective host countries. In addition, students participating in the program are required tohighlight their learning and broader experiences through a reflective journal [18].MethodsTo answer the research question, we conducted a qualitative study employing the case studymethodological framework. Case study research is based on examining the context and everycomplex condition in the real-world setting of the phenomenon to have an integral

It provided an opportunity for ABET to put forward the newaccreditation criteria-EC2000, which brought a profound impact on engineering educationwithin colleges and universities. In order to cope with the transformation paradigm ofprogram accreditation, colleges and universities carried out various engineering educationreform which included the exploration of a variety of learning outcomes assessment methods, the engagement of a wide range of intellectual resources, the internalization of the philosophyof continuous quality improvement, the integration of evaluation management mechanism, the in-depth reform of curriculum and teaching, and the talents cultivation in line with theEC2000 standard.(2) Understand the concept of

that work in the real world, with all the attendantconstraints. Therefore, “a new kind of engineer is needed, an engineer who is fully aware of thesystemic nature of the challenges we face” [10]. In response to this and recently revisedaccreditation requirements, there are currently many efforts to introduce sustainable developmentconcepts in various courses across engineering departments to promote an awareness ofsustainability and environmental impact issues and produce sustainability-conscious engineers.Embedding sustainability within the curriculum does not simply mean including new content[11]. If engineers are to contribute meaningfully to sustainable development, sustainability mustbecome part of their paradigm and affect every day
