time to graduation and arerequired to begin in remedial mathematics. The target population struggles to integrate appliedmathematical concepts within their introductory engineering classes. As a result, the attritionrates are higher after students take statics and dynamics courses. These students with poormathematical preparation were identified as at-risk for leaving engineering and STEM pathwaysentirely once they faced difficulties in their early coursework due to applied mathematics. she conducted research in transportation and sustainability as part of the Infrastructure Research Group (IRG). In addition to the Ph.D. in Civil Engineering, Dr. Barrella holds a Master of City and Regional Planning (Transportation) from Georgia Institute of Technology and a B.S. in Civil Engineering from Bucknell University.
