Kolb’s Experiential Learning Theory, our Complete Engineer® program blends thesemodels [15]. Kolb’s four-stage model describes how we can rely on reflection to translate one’sexperience. The theory upholds the importance of experiential activities where the learner makeslinks between each of the four stages: 1) Concrete Experience: the place in which the learner isactivity experiencing an activity; 2) Reflective Observation: the place where the learner reflectson the experience; 3) Abstract Conceptualization: the place where the learner conceptualizes thetheory of what is observed; and 4) Active Experimentation: the place where the learner plans totest the theory. Why the Complete Engineer®?Many colleges of engineering have student development

grade in the course. The second strategy revealed that these students have an equal rate of succeeding in Calculus Ion their next attempt. Another early alert system was implemented in a Mechanics of Materialscourse [6]. The model developed a method for detecting students at risk of failing and helpingthem plan proactive approaches to be successful. It also predicted the performance of thestudents with exceptional accuracy. In a 2021 study [7], a comparison of students who completedproactive intervention behavior modules revealed a significant correlation between the numberof modules completed and the final grade obtained in the course. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the potential impact of an Early Alert & InterventionSystem

employment or graduate school. As a side benefit, six ofthe students obtained an internship or permanent job through this interaction with the mentors. The mentors, and most particularly the younger alumni, were able to strengthen their connectionwith the Chemical Engineering Department and its students, giving them a real opportunity togive back to the university. Several mentors commented that they wished this program existedwhen they were students.Keywordsstudent mentoring, alumni interactions, personal relationships, communication, career skillsIntroductionAs faculty, we are all very familiar with student advising. . Within the software, students are able to send chat messages, share files, and organize video meetings. The first 3-week project allows the students to get to know each other and develop theircommunication and teamwork skills. This project focuses on using LEDs and a piezoelectricspeaker from their kits to create a sound and light display such as flashing lights to a sports teamtheme song. The group is asked to create a unified plan and code, but each student must thenimplement the project on their own device and create an individual demonstration video. Thegroup is also asked to produce a short report. In the second project, the students are asked to do a creative project that integrates at least onesensor and one motor from the kit. These sensors

introduction quadrant contained information neededby the audience to understand the motivation for the project. This included relevant backgroundinformation to identify a salient problem and the innovation of the student’s project. The methodssection outlined the plan to accomplish the previously discussed innovation, including detailsabout necessary data to be collected and equipment to be used. Results presented key data, andconclusions/future work summarized key points and future directions. At the first meeting, graduate students presented the structure of the quad slide and provided atemplate for the students. The students also spoke briefly about their advisor, their advisor’s fieldof study, and any basic details about their project they were

. This data comprised of two primary categories, non-Acromegaly patients (this set willcomprise the images of Acromegaly patients before they have the disease) and Acromegalypatients (the patients after they have been diagnosed with the disease). I then trained a CNNmodel on this data (Kong et al. [6], Kong et al. [7]). After developing my model, I plan to pushthe model to a cloud server. I will then build a mobile application, designed in React Native andJava, which will allow researchers to be able to upload images of test patients, and the modelwill then be trained on those images and give a decision that will help researchers determine thelikelihood of Acromegaly in a patient. Because Acromegaly is a slowly occurring disease, theresearchers

and geometryare needed to get started with this part of the learning process. By projecting the kinematicdiagram of the robot on the top and front plans, students deduce the relationships between the © American Society for Engineering Education, 2022 2022 ASEE Midwest Section Conferencejoint angles and the members of the robot. Those relationships will be later on used during theprogramming phase of the project. Figures 3 through 5 show how the projections are used to findthe inverse kinematics of the robot. Fig 3. positive andpromising. This project delighted students and improved the student’s confidence in variousaspects of thermodynamic system problem solving; 1) making assumptions to solve the problems,2) collecting, analyzing, and presenting data, 3) applying knowledge in real-engineeringthermodynamics systems, 4) use equations to solve the problems, and 5) suggest engineeringsolutions. Due to the positive feedback we received with implementing the PBL methodology, theauthors and instructors will revise and modify the project and are planning to integrate the projectinto the class project from Fall 2022 (it will not be optional).AcknowledgementThis content was created through the author’s work with the Kern Entrepreneurial EngineeringNetwork (KEEN) and

by completing a carefully planned sequence of laboratory exercises and hands-oninvolvement with manufacturing processes” [6]. The facilities the proposed lab course would betaught are recommended to include a manufacturing laboratory with student-use desktop CNCmachines and a computer lab with PCs installed with Autodesk Fusion 360. Fusion 360 is cloud-based, 5-axis capable CAM software that is common in the private sector and educationally free-to-use, which makes it a natural choice to teach a computer-aided manufacturing course. Based onFigure 1. options of Arduino and LabVIEW with students, as summarized in Table 1, allowsthem to make better choices when planning projects. In the Mechanical Engineering Departmentof the University of Arkansas, LabVIEW is only seen by students during Lab 1. The experienceuses LabVIEW as a control; the students use code given to them by the instructor. An addition tothis experience showing data collection and allowing students to employ either the simple VIs orthe DAQmx VIs would give students a launching point for using LabVIEW. This would set upstudents to utilize LabVIEW’s range of customizable code and accuracy in data acquisition.Arduino is currently used in the Intro to Mechatronics course, but, like LabVIEW, Arduino isused for control. oncomplex problems at the nexus of FEWS. The objectives of the NRT capstone are to traingraduate students from different STEM disciplines to plan and implement strategies for solvingcomplex problems; prepare students to work together across disciplinary boundaries; and preparestudents to address unfamiliar problems outside their discipline. The NRT Capstone Course is aproject-based, cross-listed course that integrates engineering, social sciences, and professionalskills needed to work in interdisciplinary groups, with focus on hands on interdisciplinaryresearch. The NRT capstone runs as a mix of lectures and team workdays. Students attendedfaculty-guided lectures designed to provide training in team communication, team collaboration, research, and

second year onschedule with the degree plan sheet. In general infection rates during the summer were lowerthan in early fall or spring, so there was less disruption.Project workThe time of the pandemic has imposed peculiarities on the work on projects. If earlier studentshad the opportunity to meet physically to complete group projects, then during the pandemic thisbecame impossible. This imposed particularities on both communication and the execution of © American Society for Engineering Education, 2022 2022 ASEE Midwest Section Conferenceindividual projects. This became especially noticeable when implementing projects involvingmanufacturing enterprises and external partners and customers
