John Steven Aiken
By John Steven Aiken A great Scientific Conference was held to judge if a Book of Knowledge, in which all thefundamental concepts in that field had been discovered, and if it was time to close that great bookof knowledge. It was a joyous occasion for those vast numbers of learned engineering and scientificscholars in attendance, for their arduous work over many generations had reached the end ofknowable knowledge in that field. They had conceived and discovered, all the concepts that couldbe contained in that Book of Knowledge. They only had three final questions to definitively, andpositively answer, before that book of knowledge was finally closed.Question 1: “Have we reached the engineering limits for the largest and most

Aerodynamic Analysis and Comparison between Axial Fan of Five and Seven Blades Mehrab Hasan Mechanical and Energy Engineering Department University of North Texas AbstractIn this study, numerical simulations were conducted on a specific model of axial fan, which has a widerange of applications in the industry. The simplified geometry of the fan was generated usingSOLIDWORKS and then it was imported to ANSYS for aerodynamic analysis. Static Pressure on fanblades were calculated for different air flow velocities ranging from 2.5 to 7.5 ms-1 velocity. It

inengineering education [3], [4], [5], [6], [10]. Visual cueing, according to reported data, is anefficient pedagogical method that allows knowledge to be attained at a faster rate than uncuedvisualization [1], [8], [11], [15]. In 2019, Marquez and Garcia integrated visual supplements intoan Engineering Mechanics course (e.g., Statics and Dynamics) with the intention of developingstudents’ ability to recognize existing real-world designs, and simultaneously identify the type ofengineering analyses required for specific applications [9]. It was reported that the integration ofvisual tools assisted students’ understanding of engineering applications, calculationrequirements/procedures, design considerations, potential sources of failure, and cost

(Fasching, 2022). It is estimated that by 2050, most of theenergy generation in the United States will be from renewable energy (EIA(b), 2022). However, thereis a need for the conservation of the energy produced to meet the ever rising demand for energy. The United States Energy Information Administration noted that the increase of the demand for energyhas dropped to only 1% annually, attributed to improved insulation, efficient heating and coolingequipment, and migration to regions that use less energy in their heating and cooling systems (EIA(b),2022). The advantage of the newly developed home appliances is that they have built in technologieswith safety features, notification features as well as the ability to be easily connected to the home

lapswimming activity recognition by incorporating two survival swimming activities: treading waterand sidestroke. We present a study which collects all six stroke types from a wrist-worn device, and we develop a machine learning algorithm that classifies activities with an F-measure of0.94.IntroductionDrowning is the leading cause of unintentional death worldwide, with over 300,000 drowningdeaths every year, with most occurring in open water [1]. Many drowning deaths occur as a resultof poor swimming skills [2]. Additionally, many deaths also occur due to an overestimation ofone’s swimming skills, indicating a disconnect between swimming skills taught by swimmingeducation programs and the skills needed to survive in the water [3].According to the

1 Elastic-Plastic Behavior of Threaded Fasteners Under Multi-Axial Loads Joseph Erwin, Laith Alqawasmi, Tariq Khraishi Mechanical Engineering Department University of New Mexico AbstractFasteners play an essential role in securely connecting separate components in practically anyproduct. Since these components are generally made of ductile metals, their behavior under non-yielding loads should predictably follow the relationship between stress and strain defined by theYoung’s Modulus of the material. To better understand the behavior of fasteners under multi

hit most of the state of Texas resultingin massive power outages due to historically low temperatures [1]. The electricity demandskyrocketed, and the state’s capacity to generate electricity could not match the sudden electricitydemand. This resulted in wide spread outages that ranged from a few hours to a few days dependingon the damage sustained in every local area. This research aims at evaluating and providing asolution to such incidents by offering a secondary, affordable, and reliable renewable source ofelectricity made from two 300-Watt solar panels tracking the sun along with the electrical hardwarenecessary to optimize electricity harnessed and stored. This system provides between 10 to 50%of the electricity demand for an average

,students gained different perspectives on engineering problems when challenged outside the norm, and thus forced to think outside the box. IntroductionStudent learning, engagement, and success are three academic areas which are positivelyinfluenced by climate, tone, or ambiance of a classroom setting [8], [9], [10]. Walberg reported inthe 1960s that the socio-emotional climate of the classroom is dependent on two measures: 1)instructor personality, and 2) student academic ability and interest in the subject [1], [16], [17],[18]. Getzels and Thelon further reported that classroom environments are contingent ofinstitutional role-expectations and individually personality dispositions [11].In 2000, Land and
