. As weprogress in our work, we are committed to addressing these challenges, ensuring that ourAI-based tools are not only effective but also ethically responsible and transparent in theiroperation.Ongoing developmentsAs part of our desire to refine the use of AI in education, we are actively exploring approaches toboth highlight and counteract the limitations of chatbots. Concurrently, we aim to leverage thestrengths of these AI tools in our pedagogical practices. This summer, we are set to pilot a “Whatcan chatbots do well” theme into our already existing a sophomore dynamics laboratory course. The essence of these lab activities will be to encourage students to interact with chatbots incompleting existing lab assignments. providing them with choices.Sustainable engineering is a complex topic which could span a number of areas. In this work weuse the framework developed by EOP [4]. The EOP framework includes nine topics, and allcould be appropriate for a FYED course; Table 1 shows the topics of focus in this work. Two ofthe nine EOP topics (design and communication & teamwork) were already core learning goalsof the FYED course. Critical thinking and social responsibility (ethics) were closely related togoals in the course. Responsible business and economy naturally tie to costs which is already aconstraint in the design process. The instructional design team explored ways to create new linksto specific EOP topics that were not normally integrated: materials

cited at the graduate level, particularly the PhD. Most commonly, a PhD degree inengineering focuses on advancing theory and applying findings to a practical problem (Barbieri,Vaidyanathan, & Peterson, 2012). Scholars also suggest that design at the PhD level must bebroader than traditional engineering disciplines, incorporating more history, philosophy, ethics, cultural studies, and politics (Meyer & Norman, 2020). Research is a fundamental component of any PhD. With a growing and maturing designresearch discipline, scholars have suggested that the focus of a design PhD can include: researchon design methods and processes, improved understanding of engineering practice, ways toincrease product development performance, and

This quesoning is more common with invisible disabilies likecognive differences rather than physical disabilies that are visually obvious (Cueller et al., 2022).Common reacons from faculty include suspicion and accusaons of lying, cheang, stealing, or takingadvantage of the “fair” educaon system (Bolourian et al., 2018; Chrysochoou et al., 2022; Robert, 2023;Slaton, 2013; Ward & Webster, 2018. Students are greeted with hoslity, doubt, irritaon, andstatements that the student is extra work (Dwyer et al., 2023; Long & Stabler, 2021), a drain on resources(Long & Stabler, 2021), lazy and without a work ethic (Chrysochoou et al., 2022
