A year later I did an internship on micro hydro power in rural regions of Central America in Le´on, Nicaragua, 2015, which is part of the area I am focussing on in my studies. I served as Relations Officer 2013-2014, International Chair 2014-2015 and Vice President for Member Relations 2015-2016 at SPEED (Student Platform for Engineering Education Develpoment). I am now aspiring my graduation as B.Sc. in July, 2016 and after that a Master of Science in the area of water ressource management and environment.Mr. Agustin Ferrario, National Technological University, Resistencia Faculty, Argentina Chemical Engineering student in the National

Therefore the ability to solve problems creatively has beenidentified as one of the imperative competencies for graduating students. The need to engagemore female students to study STEM subjects is a worldwide concern and was also highlightedby US President Barak Obama [2]. By providing knowledge platforms, regardless genderdifferentiations, helps scientific society to broadness its achievements and consequently improvethe industry outcomes. Gender discriminations in educational and

primary instrument used in this first phase of the study was Schraw, Dunkle, andBendixen’s (2002) Epistemic Belief Inventory (EBI) [3]. The instrument is in the form of aquestionnaire and it was administered to 39 female students in their freshman and sophomoreyears in an engineering college in the Arabian Gulf. The results showed that there was very littlevariation between the two levels of students, indicating that the issue of developing students’epistemic beliefs needs to be addressed more thoroughly. This could be done possibly in theintroductory engineering courses or as curriculum infused in other Science, Technology,Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) courses. Keywords—epitemic beliefs; inventory; engineering students; female; Arabian

Students gained valuable transferable skills while workingon this project including creative thinking, audience awareness, teamwork, technical writing, visual design, and communication. The authors of this paper, who include the students thatworked on the project, aim to promote and encourage the idea of undergraduate students activelyengaging and creating STEM programs and initiatives for K-12.IntroductionThe idea of STEM education has been around since the early 1900’s. Originally called, SMET(science, mathematics, engineering, and technology), educators focused on instructing studentsin skills that would benefit their future societies[1]. The idea of enriching these fields by creatingstudents well versed in them quickly

larger federally-funded research study designedby the lead author (Strayhorn) as part of a five-year CAREER grant from theU.S. National Science Foundation (NSF). The objectives of the larger studywere to understand students’ pathways to and through science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) fields with a principal focus on ethnic minoritymales. Although the larger study is comprised of national data, surveys, interviews, and observations, this work-in-progress paper is based on surveyand interview data only.Sample The survey sample was comprised of 1,150 students majoring inengineering or a related subfield at a NSSE-participating institution. Sixty-four(64%) percent of the sample were women and over 57% were Black/African-American or

An aspirational goal of thisprogram is that each engineering student will have at least one study abroad experience beforegraduation.References1. United States Census Bureau.
