The literature tends tofocus on how to assess teams with little consensus on the method to accomplish assessment or itseffectiveness.16-19 A comprehensive approach to teams and team training throughout thecurriculum was not readily apparent in the literature. PBLis an appropriate strategy for teaching students to engage in complex problem solving, andindeed may be one of the only effective methods for doing so (Shepherd and Cosgrif, 1998,Tomkinson et al., 2008). The vertically-integrated problem-based learning (PBL) frameworkdeveloped in the course of this TUES project provides undergraduate students with bothknowledge and tools needed to address urban sustainability issues in their future careers, whetherin industry or academe.
