Since mass is conserved, as water moves through a pipesystem (assuming no leaks), mass balance parameters will dictate that the flowrate must remainconsistent even as changes of A and V occur. As Q is increased, we must increase the velocity offlow and/or the size of pipe. For a specified Q, flow can be increased by reducing pipe size.Conversely, velocity can be decreased by increasing pipe size.
