and act globally’. The transitionfrom STEM to STEAM can have that global impact by leveraging the arts as a way to communicate andconnect globally.Key words: Art, aesthetics, design in engineering, expressive and sensory qualities, form.IntroductionAesthetics as a subject of formal study in higher education was first emphasized by John Dewey for theUS schools. Dewey referred to art as an experience between the artist, the work of art and its observer[1]. Each time an observer looks at Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa, a new Mona Lisa is born. Art is acontinuum from the germination of an idea to the culmination of a complex creation in its supremeform. Aesthetics is a common thread in this process which is essentially a process of the

that multiple viewpoints and different talents contribute to the work in the field.Career choices in postmodern societyIn postmodern society, the rapid technological change, evolving new technologies, digitalization, and automatization are fundamentally changing the labor market [1, 2]. In thedigital era, the importance of lifelong learning, upskilling, reskilling, and acquisition of newcompetences is emphasized [2]. Postmodern society emphasizes the role of an individual: foradolescents, self-exploration, self-actualization, finding an interesting field of study, developing a satisfying career, and establishing a meaningful life are among the key factorssteering the decisions about education and occupation [3, 4, 5, 6].In the modern world

whitepaper on the future of the Division. As part of hisstudy for the whitepaper the author responded [1] to nine comments in the Division’s fourthhandbook [2] on a previously published paper by him on “Why technological literacy and forwhom? [3]The principal axiom drawn from this analysis was that “the general aims or purposes ofprograms in engineering and technological literacy are far from clear, and in so far as they aredeclared or implicit, are a function of the audience to whom the course or program isdirected”.In order to better understand the problem a comparative study is made with an innovativecurriculum in liberal studies that took place in the UK, as they are roughly analogous. Itconfirms that any attempt to develop technological

lifelong learners. One way to enable students with such skills is throughan inquiry-based environment. Inquiry-based courses are designed for students to explore andlearn being aware of their own style and pace [1]. Such courses are designed for students toask questions, think and reflect in the space of the classroom and beyond [2]. The nature offreedom and openness in the inquiry classes, often requires students to rethink their approachto classes. Many students are tuned to change, and adapt this style when needed. Meanwhilesome others fail to adjust due to prior notions or just due to their busy schedules and at timeslack of flexibility. Through this work, we hope to explore how students perceive freedom ininquiry-based environments. Some

four combinations of the strongest perceptual andordering ability in each individual:1. Concrete Sequential (CS)2. Abstract Random (AR)3. Abstract Sequential (AS)4. Concrete Random (CR) Milton D. Cox, Anthony Grasha and Laurie Richlin had a Town Meeting in March 1997at the Lilly Atlantic Regional Conference. Here they discussed the important differencesbetween a Teaching Model and a Learning Model. This knowledge is extremely important whilestudying the impact and importance of Gregorc Style Delineators. The author has tried toexamine and analyze Gregorc Style Delineators based on the Learning Model in one of hiscourses and has obtained feedback data. In this presentation, he presents an analysis of his dataand tries to draw

minimum abasic understanding of the ways that AI, data analytics, and machine learning affect their lives.Familiarity or fluency in CS will help children retain agency and discernment while growing upwith the increasingly complex computer systems of the “4th Industrial Revolution“ 1 . Manyschools and school districts recognize the need for introducing age-appropriate CS and robotics asyoung as in pre-kindergarten. Researchers confirm the value of this move, notably led by thepioneering work of Marina Umanschi Bers and her colleagues as well as a growing number ofresearchers in various countries. These scholars study ways to integrate CS in early educationthrough various means; these include development of age-appropriate robotics kits, pre

engineering students are not prepared by current pedagogies to actethically? To frame this question this paper questions how well rules-based, or deontological, ethics provides useful guidelines in the case that the domain in which decisions are made becomecomplex or when technology is changing rapidly. Given that some companies report the half-lifeof information is as short as six months [private communication], can engineering ethics alwaysprovide useful guidance to action, or are there situations where other ethical frameworks aremore appropriate?Engineering ethics is an often-discussed subject, and substantial work in engineering educationaddresses how to effectively teach ethics [1]–[3], evaluate learning outcomes [4], and identifyissues and

Award for Excellence in Science, Mathematics, and Engineering Mentoring. c American Society for Engineering Education, 2020 MESA Center Promoting Technical LiteracyAbstractIn 2007, the first MESA Center in Texas opened at our college. After twelve years, there is astory to be told and to be proud of it.MESA, which stands for Mathematics, Engineering, and Science Achievement, is a nationalprogram that originated in California in 1970 [1], [2]. Its purpose is to support educationallydisadvantaged students throughout the education pipeline to excel in math and science so theycan go on to attain degrees in the fields of engineering, science, and mathematics. Due to itsSTEM foundation, the MESA Center

poignant isthat too much of our industrial, infrastructure, transportation and military components are nowforeign sourced. Our domestic development and production capability is being forfeited onaccount of engineering research culminating as no more than paper. The acceptance of paper solutions as an academic R&d end game has led to development andproduction increasingly occurring outside the U.S., where our academic work products aredeveloped, scaled, and put into production overseas [1]. The National Science Foundation(NSF) report to the President and Congress The State of U.S. Science & Engineering 2020 [2],contains some ominous warnings relative to the state of our national science and engineeringenterprise, which states

,implementation and deployment of intelligent systems that are both technologically advancedand ethically mindful.1.0 Introduction During the past few decades, the world has changed as a result of advances in technology[1],[2],[3]. These advances in technology have impacted and transformed society both on apersonal and professional level. They have seemingly improved the quality of life [1],[2],[3] byproviding a means of knowledge acquisition and exchange, and by connecting people andbusinesses everywhere. Most of today’s advanced technologies are powered by machinelearning algorithms. The machine learning algorithms examine trends in data and formrelationships by recognizing the patterns in the data. Once the relationships are established

(class was at 8 am and 6:30 pm respectively) alecture deliverable was added in the form of ‘question chits’ based on the revised Bloom’staxonomy which redefines the cognitive domain as the intersection of the cognitive processdimension and the knowledge dimension (Figure 1). In each class, a question was asked thatcorresponded to one of the 24 options in the revised taxonomy. Each question used a verb thatgenerally referred to an action associated with the intended cognitive process and a noun thatgenerally described the knowledge students were expected to acquire or construct [1]. This paperwill discuss this experiment and provide examples of questions posed

concept was driven by the importance offacing daily technological and engineering literacy problems and decisions in areas such as [1]:  Product and process risks.  Communication technology.  Government regulation and policy.  Availability of resources.  De-monopolization of technical know-how.  The now extra-national nature of innovationOn a national level, the need for technological literacy and engineering literacy became manifestthrough publication of:  International Technology Education Association. Standards for technological literacy: content for the study of technology [2].  “Technically speaking: Why all Americans need to know more about technology” [3].  “Tech Tally: Approaches to
