primarily made of plywood. Other materials thatare used for construction of the box are: black matte paint, the lack of shine of which stopsexcess reflection of light to help absorb the solar energy, the legs are constructed of timberwood, and a screen material is used for the shelves to allow circulation of heated air. In orderto minimize hardware such as hinges, the door to the dehydrator utilizes notching in theplywood to function as a sliding door. The second component of the dehydrator is the hotbox, which is constructed of plywood and a transparent acrylic sheet. All materials areassembelled using wood screws. a) b) Figure 2: Phase 3 solar-powered food dehydrator design #2Design 3

attitudes and policy sentiments towards publicutilities. Namely, the advent of cellular phone technology was used as an example. This helpedto set the context for student reflection and discussion on some of the potential ethical anddistribute justice dimensions of AV technology. A simple question was posed to the students toorganize some of the broader sociopolitical and economic ramifications of AV development andadoption. To wit: “Do we design AVs to accommodate existing road infrastructure, or do wedesign roads to accommodate AVs?” This provided the opportunity to discuss how economicand political choices may effect changes in the built environment and influence decisions onpublic investments in infrastructure. A big “take away” from the

and reflecting on what ‘reasonable’ answers look like. Ifan exam has un-realistic answers (e.g. a Factor of Safety of 0.0004 or 100000), then the examwill not help students build intuition.Exam Grading ProcessFrequent exams imply a high volume of grading under traditional grading strategies. To makethis activity more manageable and to add even greater value to the testing process, weimplemented a different process for grading exams.Below are the steps of the examination and grading process we now use for large sophomore andjunior level mechanics courses. The number of steps may seem high, but the net effect of thisapproach is a significant reduction in total time spent to create and grade exams. The biggestbenefits, though, may be in student

keep records of old exams and students study from them. If the professoruses old questions, they should expect that those questions are available.” (Stack Exchange,2019). By reusing the same test questions every time a course is taught, instructors may not be gradingan exam that is actually reflective of whether a student has learned the material. In this case, it is alsoarguable whether or not the student committed an act of academic dishonesty. Instructors must beconscious that their exams have, in all likelihood, been shared by one student or another. It is essentialthat new and original tests are created each time the course is offered in order to determinewhat level of mastery their current students have actually achieved. In many college

and Two or more races [1]. A study in UK showed minority students(60%) are more likely to work during term-time compared to white students (53%) [16].However, minority has statistically significant less probability of term-time employment inChina, particularly minority students with higher socio-economic status work significantly less interm-time and in college [17]. In Latvia, ethnic Belarussians, the second largest minority group, has marginally statistically less probability to work compared to ethnic Latvians [10].2.3 Socio-economic statusDifferent indicators have been used in literatures to reflect the socio-economic status of workingstudents, including but not limited to family income/parental income [15, 18], independentstudent income

activities in the course includes project updates or status reports, preliminaryproject report and oral presentation, and final project report and poster presentation. All thewriting activities are connected to the design problem. Iterations and revisions of their work arerequired. The process of returning to the same core of information for each of the reports andpresentations encouraged the students to reflect upon the feedback and evaluation given andaddress challenging issues in the current report or presentation they were working on. Thisallows students to build on learning at the same time they apply their engineering skills to solvethe problem. At the end of the course, students were also required to present their projects to thecampus

it immediately thus not causing grading bottlenecks at theend of the lab. Furthermore, the implementation of approaches such as peer-programming couldreduce the grading time using this method significantly.ConclusionIn this work, immediate one-on-one grading feedback methodology was implemented inIntroductory computer science programming labs. The method showed improved experience instudent's programming learning and communication skills compared with the traditional methodof grading and writing comments online for students to receive at a later time. This method allowedstudents to reflect immediately on their code and improve it, as well as learn better ways of writingcode. Students also practiced communicating their source code and

fall semester GPA has been higher than the fall of the previous year. This change could be attributed to new programming that was revolved around academics.Credit for this change could also be given to the fact that each fall the LLCs get a new group ofstudents. Since spots are limited to the first students that sign up, students that achieve higheracademically could have been recruited.Even though the Engineering LLC Council is constantly reflecting on past and current practices,it’s hard to draw a correlation between programming and student achievement.ConclusionAs with many programs within Residence Life, it’s hard to pinpoint exactly what effects studentperformance or data. However, with the rising average GPA each fall, its hard to deny

women and theywere warmly encouraged to pursue education. Several researchers encouraged female students bymotivating them. They believed that women who wish to take up engineering work must not getdiscouraged by the initial difficulties and the absence of well-defined openings and thatopportunities will emerge in time [31]. Starting in 1979, more women have been enrolled in highereducation than men in the United States. However, this proportion is not reflected in the field ofengineering. On June 19, 1964, the United States passed Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964prohibiting employment discrimination based on sex, race, color, religion, and national origin. This act made it possible for an increase in the number of women in the

because they do not knowwhat to do and hesitate to ask. We regularly remind students that one of our responsibilities is tohelp them execute their initiatives to the highest professional level possible. Once theycommunicate their issues with us, we can figure out together how to proceed. This is often adifficult lesson to learn. To help students articulate these lessons learned, the “big picture” outcomes of the course, weend the course with some time for reflection on the process as well as the product. One exercisefor the last day of class is to have students write a “letter to their future self.” In this letter, theyremind themselves of challenges and issues in the course, consider what worked well and whatdid not, and suggest strategies to

practices for evidence-based decision making.8. Establish Standard Intellectual Property AgreementsFinally, the authors feel it would be good practice to have a small number of varying IPagreements for the projects. The length and complexity of these agreements should fit withinpredefined categories reflecting the nature of the project for which they are to be used for. Forinstance, a lengthy convoluted legal document should not be used for small student projects, asthis will turn a lot of prospective parties away from participating. These agreements should alsoaddress FERPA as well, in regards to sharing students project work in the future. Someuniversities have developed brief FERPA waiver forms for students projects.ConclusionIn conclusion
