The manual navigation of the drone is possible by providing wireless signals.Nevertheless, access to unreachable and dangerous locations in underground mines is practicallyimpossible for a drone operator. Also, underground spaces are GPS-denied environment2. preference. Students appeared most dissatisfied when they were placed in a “dry,” or computational setting when they had primarily “wet” lab interests. V. Evolution of Students’ Identity as Researchers and Engineers. In the quantitative survey data, it was noted that the participants tended to identify more as researchers by the conclusion of the program; however, their identification with the career and aspirations of an engineer changed little. Overall, the students, understandably, appeared to possess a dual identity. Table 1 lists an example of this change from the exit focus group for the 2019 iteration of the program. It examines howwomen in India have been able to outperform their peers in the United States in studying CSE.Yet, it shows that even though computing does not appear to be a male dominated field in India, gender remains an important variable within Indian socio-cultural system. undergraduate seniorswithin the department. We determined the types of badges to offer based on feedback from studentsurveys, a senior student focus group, and our External Advisory Board. These groups helped usidentify the badges which would be the most valued and meaningful for both students andemployers. We have offered students the opportunity to earn badges for Outstanding Team Membersince Spring 2018 and Outstanding Mentorship since Fall 2019. Two new badges, Outstanding OralPresentation and Outstanding Writing, will be awarded January 2020. These badges are usuallyearned in the Fall semester to allow students to showcase these competencies on their resume orgraduate school application. Management and Earning of Badges
, meet the program educational objectives of an institutionof higher learning, and make informed decisions on allocating resources for program improvement.Another important purpose is to meet established standards of teaching and learning towardsachieving accreditation from organizations such as ABET1. Many undergraduate engineeringprograms2,3,4,5 around the world apply for ABET accreditation every year. ABET, which is based inthe USA, follows a rigorous process to ensure programs meet its accreditation criteria6. It specifies aset of student outcomes7 (SOs) that a program must achieve for its graduates. These outcomes cover Proceedings of the 2020 ASEE Gulf-Southwest Annual Conference
