conducted at a public university in the U.S. Mid-Atlantic region. Through aquasi-experimental design approach, this research assessed the impact of Ed+gineering on PSTs’engineering and pedagogical knowledge and beliefs towards engineering integration. PSTs wereassigned to treatment and comparison groups based on their course section. All participatingcourses had two versions (treatment and comparison) with the same learning objectives andsimilar content. The PSTs in the treatment group completed the Ed+gineering collaborationproject with engineering students as one of their class assignments. The comparison group wascomposed of PSTs enrolled in the same courses as the treatment group, but in sections that didnot participate in the Ed+gineering

study was conducted in the department of engineering at an undergraduate focused teaching-institution located in the mid-Atlantic region of the United states. This engineering departmentoffers a singular Bachelor of Science degree (BS) and is ABET accredited. The capstoneprogram at this department is four semester long with each semester lasting 15 weeks. Theparticipants were third year engineering students in a second semester capstone design class. These students were chosen for the study because while these students have experiencedgenerating concepts for design problems, they have not learned about creativity in a classroomsetting. Participation in the study was completely voluntary, and the participants could decide notto complete the study

First, we willdescribe the design challenge [25]. Second, we will describe the student work relevant to thepresent study [22].Design ChallengeThe shoreline design challenge is a classroom-tested upper elementary science-integrated designchallenge. In it, a city on a bay in the mid-Atlantic has

Finally, all use a course coordinator coupled withindividual faculty and/or industry mentors for each team. Team sizes are generally 4-6 students. The sites are also geographically diverse (northeast, mid-Atlantic, mountain west, and southwest)and include both public and private institutions.SamplingParticipants were recruited through a combination of in-person or video presentations from amember of the research team and emails sent through the capstone courses. Potential participantscompleted a screening survey. Our target was 20 participants per year from each ME programand 10 participants per year from the

research-intensive university located in the mid-Atlantic states. The Academy aimed atrecruiting primarily associate or full professors (tenure or non-tenure track) who had not previouslyworked substantially with the teaching and learning center. Individuals were sent e-mailinvitations asking them to send in a short application and a letter of support from their departmenthead. As an incentive to participate in the program, faculty received one week of summer salary. The inaugural EMIT Academy was held in the summer of 2020, with 9 participating faculty. Thesefaculty included 2 women and 7 men, who came from various engineering departments includingelectrical engineering, civil engineering, engineering science and mechanics, chemicalengineering

backgrounds and a high percentage of the students are potential first-generationcollege attendees. These populations are underserved in engineering. The study will thenresearch the ways in which a subset of the workshop teachers teaches engineering in theirclassrooms, using the workshop as a basis of comparison. We plan to use the knowledge we gainthrough this research to make recommendations for teacher educators about the needs of theseteachers and how to best support their use of engineering design projects in their classes. Originally planned as a two-day in-person workshop, the resulting workshop was a four-part series of half-day, synchronous meetings with eight rural teachers from three schools in ruralareas in the Mid-Atlantic region

diversity At first, the assessment showed a disproportionate number of projects were located inurban areas and connected to specific school districts and city administrations, see Figure 2.There were only seven projects that focused on rural school districts, while 21 projects wereconnected to urban school districts. The projects grouped as both urban and rural were all state-wide initiatives where the project outcomes affected both large cities and rural regions. Taken atface value, this depicts a higher concentration of projects located in urban areas where internetconnectivity is generally more accessible. The financial geography shows that these projectstarget major US cities with concentrations in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic, as well

MethodsContext and ParticipantsParticipants included 27 grade K-8 teachers in a mid-Atlantic state. These teachers representedthe first of two cohorts involved in an NSF funded project designed to support ETS instruction.Baseline data was collected on these teachers prior to professional development between Januaryand April 2020. Participants were primarily White (n = 20) and female (n = 23). Teachingexperience ranged from one to thirty-four years (M = 12.6; SD = 10.0). All participants held adegree in education and none had a degree in
