endeavor, whether graduate studies or engineering practice. Clearly, this outcome goal is entirely desirable. The challenge in developing realistic education outcome goals has become increasingly difficult asthe body of knowledge required to be conversant, much less master, a field has grown at an increasingrate over the past century.3 To illustrate, the fields of geotechnical engineering, electrical engineering, environmental engineering, and biological engineering, to name a few, were all created in the past 90years. In addition to new fields of endeavor, the introduction of technology, especially the personalcomputer, has greatly expanded the opportunities for exploration, testing, and publishing in all fields ofscience, technology

naturally develop an aptitude for electronics. Why is this thecase today? Some would argue that at an early age, today’s youth see the need and relevance, forexample, of operating the TV remote or video game joystick. Youngsters, therefore, identify with andembrace the idea that technology is a necessary part of their daily lives. Thus, without much thought oreven detailed instructions in some cases, they seem to be able to master a wide range of technology-basedand relevant operations. The desire to be able to play a video game, or record a TV program for laterviewing, instills a precise or particular imprint that causes a young person to be motivated to learn. Thus, the capacity for youngsters to be able to apply complex principles at an early age

Anotherstudy of Masters engineering students’ perceptions of GenAI found that more experience ledthem to question its reliability and consider its limitations [24].Students generally recognize that using GenAI unethically is a form of plagiarism [25], but giventhe limitations of AI plagiarism detection software, it is still unclear to what extent studentsplagiarize with ChatGPT [26]. In addition, it is not always clear when a use of GenAI isunethical (e.g., using it to double-check an already-formed answer). are seeing in other areas. While there are some important principles that need to be followed to create effectivevideos, we have found that faculty can easily master the skills and technology needed tocreate them. However, we have also realized that the real gains in student learning do notcome from just producing quality educational videos but from how to effectively use theclass time that is now available to more interactive activities. Quality in-class exercisesand interactive activities can increase student enthusiasm for the material; providechallenge; improve the students’ understanding of concepts; open up opportunities forpeer-to-peer learning, and create opportunities for introducing open ended designproblems that reinforce and

reason to maintain currency with the course material. For several years, three midterms and a final examination were used as the assessment methods inthis course. However, discussions with students and observation of their behavior called intoquestion the effectiveness of this methodology. Students tended to do much of the weeklyhomework assignments, but then did not think much about the course material until the midtermexam. Then, students tended to cram – putting in a lot of study work into a very short time, andtrying to recall and re-master about 30% of the course content in the space of a night or two. This was due, in part, to the workload placed on students during the term when they most typicallytake this Strength of Materials course. theapplication. Since communication range for the devices was within two (2) meters, powerconsumption was the primary aspect considered when choosing the protocol. Ultimately thedecision was made to utilize Bluetooth, which could easily be configured to acceptcommunication from wireless third party devices such as a laptop or tablet. When researchingArduino Bluetooth shields, it was discovered that the majority operated only in slave mode. Thisentails the use of another Bluetooth device such as a smartphone or computer that would beneeded to act as the master node for the piconet. The RN-42 module can be used as a masternode and it was determined that its use was ideal. The RN-42 module would effectively replace aSpring 2015 Mid-Atlantic ASEE Conference

liked being able to assess my own knowledge first before discussing in a group setting. It is really helpful to discuss concepts with peers. TBLs encourage me to keep up with lectures and they give me an idea of how much I know at that point. At first I was unsatisfied with the fact that my final grade would depend on my group, but in the end, I found that listening to others' ideas actually helped me understand the thought process behind answering some of the questions better. My favorite MoleCell activity, in retrospect, may have been the gRAT's; it was just somewhat fun and exciting to scratch off to find the right answer. The TBL sections helped me master the material and keep up-to-date on what we were learning in class. I would

of education and the learningexperience, it is imperative that an education system is to be created such that it sets its goals andambitions high enough to fulfill the need for adaptation to its technological, political, social andcultural environment. The arrival of worldwide communications networks and powerfulcomputer technologies has redefined the concept of distance learning and the delivery ofengineering course content.Online learning is recognized as the use of any of the new technologies or applications in theservice of learning or learner support. It is important because online learning can make asignificant difference as to how students learn, how quickly they master a skill, how easy it is tostudy; and, equally important, how much

believe that students become well prepared for the real world by learning the tradeoffsbetween different approaches to the design and mastering them in a hands-on laboratoryenvironment.Microcontroller Architecture and Assembly Language ProgrammingOur students take a course on microcontroller based design as the sixth-semester course afterthey have learnt about the architectures of Intel 80xxx series microprocessors and theirprogramming in assembly language. They also learned in their fifth-semester microprocessordesign course the disassembly, memory, and register viewing processes. So in this course weintroduce students with microcontrollers that get used in the design of many embedded systems.A hands-on laboratory is an integral part of this

This is generally left for them to learn in actual practice.” “Actual, practical, ‘hands-on’ experience would complement academics – a co-op situation maybe?” “I have interviewed significant numbers of prospective mechanical engineering graduates, both Masters and Bachelors degrees. apply the basic skills taught in ENGR 117 and master theircomputational skills as they progress towards the completion of their degree. As a start, we areplanning to implement NUMerical application problems in Statics and Mechanics of Materials(NumSMM). The following two Matlab computational modules are presented here forillustration purpose.NumSMM Module 1After students are familiar with the principle of adding multiple vectors, they will utilize aMatlab tool with graphical user capabilities. The code will be provided and students can alter andmodify it depending on the type of inputs and output parameters. The results include bothgraphical results and a numerical result. This will help students to visualize the magnitude anddirection of
