ofpreparation decreases the likelihood that graduates will obtain these competitive positions.Providing more focused preparation can also reduce barriers to entering academia, increasingboth the number and diversity of qualified candidates. To provide students with such preparation, a seminar series was offered in Spring 2022 andSpring 2023 and was organized and co-taught by two or three faculty members as a serviceactivity and not part of their teaching load. SEA consisted of three topic areas: (1) informationabout academic careers and pathways, (2) application process and materials, and (3) interviewprocess and expectations. For the first two topic areas, most of the seminars were led by the co-instructors, while for the final topic area of the series

: This paper presents an example of the progress made in a five-year NSF IUSE-funded project on repairing the reputation of the teaching profession to address teacher shortagesin STEM disciplines. This paper focuses on an undergraduate student-facing presentationdeveloped by Get the Facts Out (GFO) used for teacher recruitment with the goal of examiningthe effectiveness of the presentation at impacting students’ perceptions of teaching. Thepresentation was designed to address common misconceptions about the teaching profession thatwere preventing many students from exploring teaching as a career path.Methods/Assessment: In 2021 and 2022, GFO conducted effectiveness studies on thepresentation in a first-year chemistry course at Colorado School of

One canargue that progress has been made, considering that this number has more thandoubled in percentage since 1996, when only 1.22% of the 329,239 A&P mechanicswere women (FAA, 2023). However, the meager increase in representation of women inthe aviation maintenance field has yet to show any real impact on the prevalent genderimbalance in the aviation maintenance technicians’ professions. Generally, women areunderrepresented in most aviation professions. For instance, only eight percent of thetop 100 airline CEOs are female (Institute of Women of Aviation Worldwide, 2022).
