senior capstone design course leaned more solidly towards“agree” than mean values from the sustainable civil engineering course. This slight trend showspositive support for our approach of including touchpoints of Envision coverage that buildknowledge into applying the system more fully in senior capstone design.Additionally, the assignment in senior capstone design (Figure 3) was utilized for departmentalcontinuous improvement and assessment of student outcomes. For the student outcome to“analyze the sustainable performance of civil engineering projects from a systems perspective,”this assignment scored 83% passing rate in AY 2022-23 and 100% passing rate in AY 2023-24.ConclusionTo support students in designing with sustainability in mind from
years, as illustrated in Figure 1. However, when considering data from 2016 through 2024,enrollment experienced two noticeable stalls in growth: the first beginning in 2017 (beforereturning to its high growth rate between 2019 and 2020) and a second stall beginning in 2020(with recovery beginning in 2022). While the cause of each of these instances of growth stallmay be attributed to intentional University decisions and/or external factors, the followingdiscussion does not seek to explain the causes. Rather, the discussion looks at how enrollment ofspecific subpopulations contributed to these observed growth stalls, serving as an exploratorycase study as to how data analysis for subpopulations can provide important insights intootherwise hidden
data transfer between theflight system and the ground station. This will ensure reliable transmission of real-time teleme-try during ascent and descent. Additionally, we plan to integrate three supplementary payloads:(1) a 5.7k resolution 360° camera for flight documentation, (2) a SPOT Trace GPS tracker forredundancy in tracking and recovery, and (3) a venting system to regulate internal pressure andtemperature of the balloon. These components were core elements of the University’s contribu-tions to the Nationwide Eclipse Ballooning Project from 2022 to 2024 [5].Result & Discussion The preliminary findings from this research reflect not only strong technical progress toward asuccessful flight in June 2025, but also highlight the

small fraction of this number is specifically inprofessional engineering fields [2]. One reason for the low numbers of Hispanics in engineeringmay be that 37% of Latinos, compared to 29% of White students, switch out of their major asundergraduates [3]. Therefore, it is critical to improve the educational experience in engineeringfor Hispanics to develop a future engineering workforce that reflects the diversity of the nation.UTRGV’s Center for Broadening Participation (CBP)UTRGV established the Center for Broadening Participation in Engineering (CBP) in Fall 2022,guided by the principle of "servingness" to empower Latinx students pursuing engineeringcareers [4,5]. The CBP aims to increase Hispanic participation in engineering by developing

, confidencedevelopment can be particularly challenging due to various factors, including lack of resources, limited access to mentors, and cultural factors (Phinney & Ong, 2018). Research suggests that thedevelopment of academic self-confidence is intricately linked to educational achievement and careeraspirations (Zimmerman, 2022). Adolescents with higher self-confidence are more likely to engagein challenging academic tasks and persist in the face of difficulty. However, for adolescents fromdisadvantaged backgrounds, these levels of confidence are often undermined by systemic inequitiesand stereotype threats (Murphy et al., 2021).In the context of engineering, adolescent confidence plays a particularly crucial role.
