The students involvedin this study included 11 students (2 undergraduate seniors and nine graduate master’s students)from Southern Methodist University (SMU), a medium-sized private research university. Bothundergraduate students were enrolled in the bachelor of science program in civil andenvironmental engineering. Dr. Godwin graduated from Clemson University with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering and Ph.D. in Engineering and Science Education. Her research earned her a National Science Foundation CAREER Award focused on characterizing latent diversity, which includes diverse attitudes, mindsets, and approaches to learning, to understand engineering students’ identity devel- opment. She is the recipient of a 2014 American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE) Educational Research and Methods Division Apprentice Faculty Grant. She has also been recognized for the synergy of
